De Spinoza-reader van Freeman & Mandelbaum

In de 70-iger jaren verschenen er meerdere Engelstalige bundels met Spinoza- essay’s:

Paul Kashap (Ed.), Studies in Spinoza: Critical and Interpretive Essays (Berkeley: University of California Press, 1972); [cf. blog]

Marjorie Grene (Ed.), Spinoza: A Collection of Critical Essays (Garden City, N.Y.: Anchor, 1973); [cf. blog]

Eugene Freeman & Maurice Mandelbaum (Eds.), Spinoza: Essays in Interpretation (La Salle, IU.: Open Court, 1973);

J. G. van der Bend (Ed.), Spinoza on Knowing, Being, and Freedom (Assen: Van Gorcum, 1974). [cf. volgend blog]

James B. Wilbur (Ed.), Spinoza's Metaphysics: Essays in Critical Appreciation. Philosophia Spinozae Perennis, vol. 1. Assen: Van Gorcum, 1976. Pp. viii + 163. Paper, Dfl. 37.50. [cf. volgend blog]

Richard Kennington (Ed.), The Philosophy of Baruch Spinoza [Washington, DC : The Catholic University of America Press, 1980 [cf. blog]

I. Boucher's Spinoza in English: A Bibliography from the Seventeenth Century to the Present [BRILL, 1991 – books.google]

Het gaat hier dus om

Margaret D. Wilson in haar review: "The collection includes one superb essay — Willis Doney's "Spinoza on Philosophical Scepticism". This subtle, informed, totally disciplined piece explores Spinoza's position on (roughly) the problem of Cartesian circularity. No one interested in that problem, or scepticism generally, should overlook it."
Michael Della Rocca in zijn  Spinoza-boek over ditzelfde artikel van Willis Doney: "Useful overview of Spinoza on skepticism."
