De Spinoza-reader van J. G. van der Bend

De in een eerder blog vandaag genoemde reeks Engelstalige Spinoza essay-bundels uit de jaren ’70, waarvan ik van een aantal hun inhoud gaf, completeer ik in dit blog. Daarmee wil ik niet suggereren dat ik dat met alle daarna komende bundels ook ga doen, maar misschien van enkele nog.

Al eens eerder had ik aandacht besteed aan een aantal teksten uit dit boek dat door Van der Bend werd geredigeerd, maar pas in dit blog geef ik de inhoud. Daarbij heb ik gebruik gemaakt van deze publicatie uit 2005 van het Wydzialu Filozofii i Socjologii, Instytut Filozofii van de Uniwersytet Warszawski:

In zijn zeer uitgebreide recensie in het Tijdschrift voor Filosofie [37ste Jaarg., Nr. 4 (DECEMBER 1975), pp. 720-724] rekende Herman De Dijn, die overigens zelf een hoofdstuk leverde, eerst af met het pleidooi voor een idealistische lezing van Spinoza dat Van der Bend in zijn inleiding bracht. Hij vindt het stuk van G. H. R. Parkinson “een merkwaardig klare uiteenzetting van de fundamentele koncepten van Spinoza’s metafysiek en epistemologie. Het gaat hier om een van de beknoptste en toch nauwkeurigste inleidingen op Spinoza’s denken die er te vinden zijn.” Het is een bespreking, waarin De Dijn flink in debat gaat over het interpreteren van Spinoza.
