Evald Vasilyevitch Ilyenkov (1924 - 1979) en Spinoza
Toen ik dit weekend het hoofdstuk Spinoza - Thought as an Attribute of Substance uit het boek van Evald Ilyenkov, Dialectical Logic, Essays on its History and Theory (1974) las, voelde ik meteen aan dat ik hier te maken had met iemand met bewondering voor Spinoza - iemand die meeging met de filosofische kijk op de dingen van Spinoza. Het verbaasde me dan ook niet dat ik op internet in een boek met de teksten van een aan hem gewijd symposium in Helsinki in 1999, dat twintig jaren na zijn dood is gehouden, een hoofdstuk vermeld zag van de lezing Ilyenkov and Spinoza (van dr. A.G. Novokhatko, van het Ilyenkov archief in Moscow).

Ilyenkov (je komt ook tegen: Ewald Wasiljewitsch lljenkow of Evald Vassilievich Ilyenkov) wordt op meerdere plekken op internet aangeduid als "ein reich begabter Philosoph, Theoretiker der materialistischen Dialektik mit originellen Ideen, die er ständig gegen Schmähungen und Verdächtigungen verteidigen musste, was seine Produktivität entscheidend behinderte. An einmal gewonnenen Überzeugungen hielt er unbeirrt und kompromisslos fest." Of: "An outstanding philosopher, whose ideas not only influenced profoundly the Soviet philosophy, but even left their mark on the discussions concerning the role of the dialectical method, the theoretical foundations of psychology and the philosophy of Marxism in general." Het moet niet makkelijk geweest zijn om marxistisch schrijver en tegelijk vernieuwend filosoof te zijn in het Rusland van ver voor de glasnost. Het Duitse citaat hierboven komt uit een publicatie van de Rus Andrey Maidansky, die op zijn website (caute!) over Spinoza ook een pagina over Ilyenkov heeft. Daarop een Duitstalige publicatie Brief des Philosophen Iljenkow an das ZK der KPdSU, een moedige kritische brief aan het Centraal Komitee van de Communistische Partij van de Sowjet Unie. Hij was het niet eens met de verkwantseling van het oude filosofische erfgoed: “Aber das logische Erbe von Spinoza und Leibniz, Kant und Hegel, Marx und Lenin – ist „veralteter hegelianischer Plunder“; es ist der gestrige Tag der Logik, es ist eine Logik, die dem modernen Niveau der Naturwissenschaft nicht entspricht.” Ilyenkov was ook vertaler en redacteur van werk van Hegel, Fichte and Marx.
Het boek Consciousness and Revolution in Soviet Philosophy: From the Bolsheviks to Evald Ilyenkov, by Bakhurst, David (Author), Pippin, Robert B. (Editor) dat in 1991 bij Cambridge University Press werd uitgegeven, wordt aangeprezen met de tekst: The tradition is presented through the work of Evald Ilyenkov (1924-79), the thinker who did the most to rejuvenate Soviet philosophy after its suppression under Stalin. Professor Bakhurst sets Ilyenkov's contribution against the background of the bitter debates that divided Soviet philosophers in the 1920s, the "sociohistorical psychology" of Vygotsky, the controversies over Lenin's legacy, and the philosophy of Stalinism. He traces Ilyenkov's tense relationship with the Soviet philosophical establishment and his passionate polemics with Soviet opponents. This book offers a unique insight into the world of Soviet philosophy, the place of politics within it, and its prospects in the age of glasnost and perestroika. [hier]
Ilyenkov maakte tenslotte zelf een eind aan zijn leven in 1979.
Hij liet werken na als: Dialectical Logic (1977), Reflections on Lenin’s book: “Materialism and Empirio-Criticism” (1979), Leninist Dialectics and the Metaphysics of Positivism (1982) and The Dialectics of the Abstract and Concrete in Marx's Capital (Russian, 1960; English trans. 1982). Werk van Ilyenkov werd vertaald en gepubliceerd, naar verluid in wel 17 talen. Op diverse internetsites zijn teksten van Ilyenkov te vinden; bijv. hier, maar vooral op marxists.org/archive/ilyenkov/

VESA OITTINEN: INTRODUCTION. PARADOXES OF ILYENKOV AND THE SOVIET PHILOSOPHY
The Helsinki symposium on 7th 8th of September 1999 was held just 20 years after the death of Evald Vasilyevitch Ilyenkov (1924 1979), demonstrating that the legacy of this perhaps most original of the Soviet philosophers is still relevant. However, it is noteworthy that in many contributions to this symposium Ilyenkov's relation to Marxism was altogether ignored. Even where his work was seen in continuity with the tradition of Marx's thought, the focus was on the most unorthodox aspects of Marxist philosophy, despite the fact that Ilyenkov regarded himself not only as a Marxist, but as a Marxist Leninist who was writing such texts as The Leninist Dialectics and Metaphysics of Positivism (1980, English edition 1982) from a very “orthodox” perspective. There are, in fact, many paradoxes, not only in the way Ilyenkov's philosophy was and is received, but in that philosophy itself. As an introduction to this symposium volume, I would like to address some “neuralgic points” of Ilyenkov's thought and Soviet philosophy in general. [fragment, p. 9 in]
