Rebecca Goldstein ontvangt de 2014 National Humanities Medal voor o.a. haar Spinoza-boek

Gisteren zijn door het Witte Huis de tien winnaars bekend gemaakt die op donderdag 10 september de 2014 National Humanities Medal zullen ontvangen uit handen van president Barack Obama.  Dat zal  gebeuren in een ceremonie die zal plaatshebben in de East Room van het Witte Huis, waarbij de First Lady Michelle Obama eveneens aanwezig zal zijn.

Tot de tien winnaars behoort ook de filosoof en schrijver Rebecca Newberger Goldstein, uitdrukkelijk zoals in de verklaring van het Witte Huis stond: "for bringing philosophy into conversation with culture. In scholarship, Dr. Goldstein has elucidated the ideas of Spinoza and Gödel, while in fiction, she deploys wit and drama to help us understand the great human conflict between thought and feeling."

Haar Betraying Spinoza: The Renegade Jew who Gave Us Modernity verscheen in 2006. Ze won er in dat jaar ook de Koret Jewish Book Award mee.
