Vincenzo Ferrone kritiseert Jonathan Israel
Onlangs werd ik gewezen op een boek over de Verlichting (waarvan er inmiddels al zoveel zijn): Vincenzo Ferrone, een leerling van de Italiaanse historicus over de (18e eeuwse) Verlichting Franco Venturi (1914-1994), schreef een boek over de Verlichting dat dit jaar werd herdrukt.

Princeton University Press biedt momenteel sinds een paar weken een korting van 40% tot einde jaar [($17.97 ipv $29.95]
Aan de herdruk heeft Ferrone in de tekst zelf (p. 130 e.v.) en nog eens samengebald in een ‘Afterword’ een diepgaande kritiek op het werk van Jonathan Israel, een kritiek die niet heel nieuw klinkt, maar veel eerdere kritieken a.h.w. recyclet. Spinoza komt in dit boek alleen voor in de gedeelten die over Jonathan Israel’s benadering gaan.
